MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that defines how AI assistants and agents can securely communicate with external systems – databases, APIs, CRM tools, file systems. It was created by Anthropic and is now supported by a growing ecosystem of tools.
Before MCP, every AI tool was an "island" – it could answer questions, but couldn't directly work with your systems. With MCP, you can tell an AI agent: "Open Jira, find all tickets assigned to Peter, summarise their status." The agent actually does it – via an MCP connection to Jira.
For businesses, this means AI agents can work seamlessly with the tools you already use: Slack, Notion, CRM, internal databases. You don't have to build custom integrations from scratch.
